About This Special Terroir 

Red Mountain is one of Washington's smallest American Viticultural Areas (AVA) but is among the most well-defined and distinctive areas due in large part to its geography.  At the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley, Red Mountain is a moderately steep southwest facing slope that rises above a sharp bend in the Yakima River.  As one of the warmer sites in the state, grapes ripen exceptionally well, but with the great diurnal shift, cool nights, the berries have the opportunity to maintain a beautiful acidity, creating great balance in the wines.   All of this along with high winds, sandy loess soil, low precipitation create the perfect growing conditions for Bordeaux varietals such as Merlot and make this AVA a terroir that is highly sought after by winegrowers, viticulterist and winemakers the world over,  

The berries used to make this gorgeous Merlot hail from Stanton Vineyard on Red Mountain.  Stanton Vineyard is a beautiful 45 acres at about 700 ft elevation composed of finely sand loam and starbuck silt loam.
